Day of Caring is a one day, hands-on experience across our region where volunteer teams from local businesses are matched with local non-profit agencies and schools to complete meaningful projects that fulfill agency and community needs.

Project Description: Help with our outdoor renovation, Could include painting an external wall, clearing brush, putting a sign back in the ground, and maintaining trails

Time Frame: We can keep as many people as you can send us (probably up to 30) busy for a long as they are available. Good, meaningful work (No busy work)

Supplies Provided: Yes, but a limited amount. We might need some extra yard and painting tools, depending on the number of volunteers, which we can borrow if they can’t be bought with your folks.

Stuff the Bus Campaign (Communities in Schools of NW MI)

Stuff the Bus Campaign

Project Description: Communities in Schools of Northwest Michigan CIS),partnership with local school districts, works to alleviate the stress for our students by asking community members to donate money or supplies through our annual stuff the bus campaign. School supplies and basic need items are being collected for the following schools: Forest Area Community Schools, Kalkaska Public Schools, Sutton Bay Public Schools, Mancelona Public Schools and Central Lake Public Schools.

Project Description: Collect new/like new books for children birth to 5 for Born to Read Ambassadors to distribute at baby pantries, WIC clinics, play groups, Migrant Head Start, and other community sites.

Project Description: The DK5K is an obstacle course being held in an effort to continue to raise awareness about veteran suicide. This is not only for veterans to receive information and help, but also for civilians to gain the knowledge about how to help their veteran friends and family.

Project Description: We are currently constructing an addition to our thrift store that also impacts the food pantry area. We are nearing completion of the project and have lots of dust and clutter to clean up. Our projected opening date is September 15th, so there may be some projects in the thrift store for organization, re-organization and straightening. As the time gets closer we will know more definitely what needs to be done.
