AmeriCorps VISTA

AmeriCorps VISTA is a full-time national service program for organizations interested in developing lasting solutions to address poverty. Nonprofit organizations, Native American Tribes, and state, city, and local government agencies are eligible to apply to be AmeriCorps VISTA host sites with the United Way of NW MI VISTA project. Proposed projects should focus on any of the following three CNCS focus areas: 1) Economic Opportunity, 2) Education, or 3) Healthy Futures.

AmeriCorps VISTA members are placed with a host site to develop and expand services and programs that help lift low-income individuals out of poverty. Their work is concentrated on building the capacity of the organization and community.

By serving with AmeriCorps VISTA, you can make a tangible difference. And, you’ll find the fulfillment that comes from using your knowledge and skills to help those in disadvantaged circumstances turn their dreams into reality.

LOCAL IMPACT

Through capacity building activities such as fundraising, grant writing, research, and volunteer recruitment AmeriCorps members in the VISTA program serve in an office setting and gain experience and leadership skills. This opportunity prepares members for a life of service in the public, private, or nonprofit sector.

VISTA Members commit their time to address critical community needs. Locally, we have 7 VISTAs placed with agencies to help expand their organization’s capacity. These individuals have helped recruit volunteers, develop new programming, and have helped bring in thousands of grant dollars for program support!

MADDIE MEDLER

My name is Maddie Medler, and I am so excited to be a part of the AmeriCorps VISTA team. I am soon to be a junior at Grand Valley State University, and I am pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Allied Health Sciences. I plan on attending graduate school after my bachelor's degree to become a physician assistant. I enjoy beach walks, collecting rocks, hiking and working out. In high school I was a member of the National Honor Society, and I am excited and honored to be presented with another opportunity to give back to our community.
