United Way Retired and Senior
Volunteer Program (RSVP)

You don't need to be retired or senior just over 55!

RSVP connects people to meaningful, long and short term volunteer assignments with over 200 nonprofit agencies in Northwest Michigan. You can volunteer year round, seasonally, once, in a while or start with one hour.

Volunteering keeps you healthier, happier, and more productive. It puts you in touch with new faces and new places, presents new challenges, and adds interest and meaning to your life. All you need is a desire to help. Our staff will assist you in finding just the right place to use your talents.

The Afghan Angel Project began in 2000 through RSVP. Donations of yarn and the expertise of talented volunteers is the key to its success. Over the years, hundreds of beautiful afghans have been knitted or crocheted and distributed to medical care facilities and non-profit agencies in Northwest Michigan. To date 116 RSVP volunteers are registered with the Afghan Angel Project.

Many RSVP Afghan Angels have commented that knitting or crocheting has helped their hands keep busy as well as helped with the effects of arthritis.
