Martin Luther King Jr. Read to Kids Day

On January 16, 2011 people of all ages and backgrounds across the country will come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers, and move our nation closer to the "Beloved Community" that Dr. King envisioned.  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. devoted his life's work to causes of equality and social justice.  He taught that through nonviolence and service to one another, problems such as hunger and homelessness, prejudice and discrimination, can be overcome.

In Northwest Michigan volunteers will be reading to pre-school, kindgergarten, first, and second grade students about the holiday and Martin Luther King Jr. on Friday, January 13th.  Volunteer readers will be needed at various elementary schools throughout the Traverse City area.  If you are interested in volunteering for this year's MLK Day event please contact Amanda Hilt 947-3200 x206.  You can also signup by visiting our volunteer website.
